Facebook Causes Cancer

Social networking sites such as Facebook could raise your risk of serious health problems because they reduce the amount of face-to-face contact.

When you email someone instead of actually meeting them, there are a wide range of biological effects, said Dr. Aric Sigman.

Increased amount of isolation alters the way genes work and changes the responses of your immune system, your hormone level and the function of your arteries.

This could increase the chance of getting problems like cancer, heart disease and dementia, Dr Sigman says.

Social networking sites such as MySpace and Facebook allow people to keep in touch with friends over the web.

They can swap pictures, play games and leave messages which explain how their day is going.

Even though they are designed to bring people together, Dr. Sigman says they’re actually playing a part in people becoming more and more isolated.
